Electrical Technician 

Near Pickering, North Yorkshire

Full-time, Permanent

Overview:

A highly regarded engineering manufacturer based near Pickering, North Yorkshire, is seeking an Electrical Technician to support the assembly and testing of complex electrical systems used in demanding operational environments. The company is involved in the production of specialised equipment for remote, high-risk applications, and has a longstanding reputation for technical quality and innovation.

This is a hands-on, workshop-based role ideal for individuals with solid electrical/electronic assembly skills who are looking to develop further in a professional and well-supported environment.

Role Purpose:

To assemble, wire, and test a variety of electrical and electronic subassemblies and control systems to recognised quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble electrical/electronic subassemblies from drawings, schematics, or verbal instructions in line with internal build specifications and ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Wire and solder cable assemblies, PCBs, SMTs, transformer assemblies, control consoles, and connectors.
  • Undertake heavy-duty cable wiring, deck cable assembly, and outfitting of control systems.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing, fault-finding, and repairs to component level (including PCBs).
  • Carry out assembly work using computer-controlled operations as required.
  • Ensure project build times are achieved in accordance with integration and delivery schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete all documentation such as timesheets, build notes, ECNs, and test records.
  • Adhere to safe working practices and departmental quality standards.
  • Keep work areas organised and compliant with housekeeping expectations.
  • Assist with other duties as directed by team leaders or management.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in electrical/electronic assembly or testing.
  • Familiarity with low voltage AC/DC panel wiring, looms, and control/data systems.
  • Understanding of high voltage installations and safe working practices.
  • Fibre optic handling or termination knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Safety-conscious with a focus on quality and efficiency.
  • Flexible and capable of working under pressure to meet project deadlines.

Desirable:

  • ONC or equivalent qualification in electrical/electronic engineering.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (IEEE) certification.
  • Prior experience working in production, assembly, or testing environments.
  • Understanding of both production processes and associated equipment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for work-related tasks.
