The Opportunity
A long-established operator within the environmental services sector is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to lead on all matters relating to health, safety, and regulatory compliance. Working across a busy, multi-functional site, this is a hands-on role that blends strategy with day-to-day operational involvement.
This position would suit an experienced H&S professional from a manufacturing, waste, or recycling environment – someone who’s confident in their ability to embed a strong safety culture, stay ahead of evolving legislation, and keep people, processes, and the environment protected.
Role Overview:
- Develop and implement the company’s health and safety strategy, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and sector-specific regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments, including environmental and fire safety checks.
- Maintain up-to-date method statements and safe systems of work across all operational processes – from equipment handling and manual operations to the storage and disposal of regulated materials.
- Lead on accident and near-miss investigations, reporting findings and implementing corrective measures.
- Deliver training, inductions, and toolbox talks to foster awareness, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Act as the main point of contact for external audits, regulators, and environmental bodies.
- Oversee key compliance areas, including PPE usage, COSHH, and health surveillance requirements.
Candidate Profile:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum); Diploma or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a health and safety management role within a regulated operational environment such as manufacturing, waste, or recycling.
- Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation including RIDDOR, PUWER, COSHH, and environmental compliance standards.
- Confident communicator who can influence at all levels and build trust across teams.
- Practical, methodical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on setting.
What’s in it for you?
- A key role within a stable, growing organisation that values safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
- Autonomy to shape safety systems and culture across the site.
- Ongoing investment in CPD and professional development.
- Competitive salary + company benefits.
- Supportive leadership and a collaborative working environment.
