Senior Chemist - Catalysts

Environmental and Energy

Oxfordshire

£55000k – £65000k

permanent

Job Ref: 8482

Description

If you’re looking for a step in your career where you can make decisions that materially shift catalyst performance, scale-up outcomes and actual commercial feasibility, this is it.

This organisation is developing breakthrough carbon conversion technology that turns waste CO₂ into sustainable fuels and chemicals through advanced catalytic processes and they are now scaling from gram to kilogram to pilot-plant deployment.

Senior Chemist
Location: Oxford
£.55,000 - £65,000 + Benefits
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

As Senior Chemist, you’ll be central in that transition. This is a hands-on R&D role where your experimental work, catalyst formulation decisions and interpretation of data will directly influence how the technology scales and performs in real reactors. You'll mentor developing scientists and collaborate closely with engineers and pilot plant teams to take concepts into robust, scalable catalyst systems.

Senior Chemist
Responsibilities:

  • Develop, synthesise and scale heterogeneous catalysts from gram to kilogram scale.
  • Run hands-on experiments, catalyst testing and optimisation work in lab & pilot environments.
  • Characterise catalysts & reaction products using BET, XRD, TPR, SEM, GC, GC-MS.
  • Analyse data, identify key performance drivers and recommend formulation changes.
  • Work closely with engineers to feed catalyst performance into system & scale-up design.
  • Produce high-quality records, reports, presentations and contribute to IP.
  • Support the safe running of lab operations (COSHH, RA, SOPs).

Senior Chemist
Requirements:

  • MSc (minimum) or PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in heterogeneous catalyst development & scale-up.
  • Strong experimental capability and ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Hands-on experience in lab or pilot plant environments.
  • Excellent communicator who collaborates well across R&D and engineering.
  • Safety-first mindset and strong attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Experience in CO₂ hydrogenation, Fischer–Tropsch, or similar catalytic processes.
  • Understanding of scale-up challenges at pilot or demonstration scale.

If you want your work to directly influence the next generation of CO₂-to-fuels technology, email me with your CV [email protected] or apply.
