Description

Health & Safety Advisor

Location: Norfolk (with occasional travel across sites)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Schedule: Monday to Friday (flexibility required)

Overview

An established civils and reinstatement contractor is seeking a proactive Health & Safety Advisor to support its operations in Norfolk, working on high-security infrastructure projects. This role will be primarily based at one key site but may involve travel to other locations within the group. The successful candidate will play a vital role in driving compliance, promoting a positive safety culture, and ensuring the highest standards in health, safety, environment, and quality (SHEQ).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site audits and inspections, ensuring SHEQ compliance across operations.
  • Advise teams and management on site-specific safety and environmental practices.
  • Act as Permit Controller, ensuring all work permits and inspections are accurately issued and recorded.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses and accidents; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Deliver and coordinate training on SHEQ topics, ensuring staff are competent and informed.
  • Maintain and report on SHEQ performance metrics, recommending improvements where necessary.
  • Support the preparation and review of RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements).

Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualified (or working towards)
  • SMSTS (Units 1–3) certification
  • Experience within utilities, construction or civils environments
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
  • Confident in incident investigation and SHEQ reporting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in site environments

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting high-security or critical infrastructure projects
  • Ability to influence and engage at all levels of the organisation
